Mike Marshall (mandolin) - is one of the most innovative players of new instrumental music. Initially rooted in bluegrass, Marshall has consistently explored all the possibilities of his stringed instruments. At the age of 18, he won the Florida state fiddle and mandolin championships. He was a member of the David Grisman quintet, toured with Stéphane Grappelli, Mark O'Connor, Tony Rice, Béla Fleck, Jerry Douglas, and fellow Grisman bandmember Darol Anger. Marshall and Anger also collaborated, along with bassist Todd Phillips, banjo player Tony Trischka, and guitarist David Grier, in a bluegrass/jazz/classical/folk group, Psychograss. Marshall co-founded the Modern Mandolin Quartet and plays Brazilian music with Choro Famoso. Marshall has also periodically collaborated with Edgar Meyer, Jerry Douglas, Mark O'Connor, and Sam Bush in a bluegrass superband, Strength in Numbers.
Darol Anger (fiddle) - Exceptional among modern fiddlers for his versatility and depth, Darol Anger has helped drive the evolution of the contemporary string band through his involvement with numerous path-breaking ensembles such as his Republic Of Strings, the Turtle Island String Quartet, the David Grisman Quintet, Montreux, the Duo and other ensembles. Today Darol can be heard on NPR's "Car Talk" theme every week, along with Earl Scruggs, David Grisman and Tony Rice. He has recorded and produced scores of important recordings since 1977, is a MacDowell and UCross Fellow, and has received numerous composers' residencies and grants. He is a featured soloist on dozens of recordings and motion picture soundtracks.
